Freezing Frenzy

Description:

Our GMTK Game Jam 2021 Entry "Freezing Frenzy", is an upbeat puzzler and our approach to the "match-3" genre. Swap the coloured jellies to freeze connecting jellies of the same colour, once your freeze reaches both ends of the play-space and is connected edge-to-edge, it thaws, removing all frozen blocks and adding to the Melt Meter. Once this meter is full, press space to activate Insta-Thaw! This mode stops the clock, disables gravity and immediately removes frozen tiles, as well as awarding bonus points and time, turning the board into a frantic game of strategic elimination in which you must remove as many tiles as you can for the biggest payoff! Score the most points before the time runs out to achieve new highscores!

Swapping tiles is only possible if both of the tiles being swapped are of different colours, connected edge-to-edge and both are not frozen. One or more of the tiles must create a group (straight lines connection not required) of 3 or more tiles of the same colour in order to qualify as a valid swap too.

Additional time can be earnt by making valid swaps and through eliminating tiles in Insta-Thaw Mode.

Controls:

Version 1 - Mouse/Keyboard (Recommended):

• Left mouse button to select your first tile, WASD to attempt to swap.
• Space bar to activate Insta-Thaw Mode.

Version 2 - Mouse Only:

• Left mouse button to select first and second tiles to swap.
• Right mouse button to activate Insta-Thaw Mode.
